Located in Tooele County in northwestern Utah, you can find the Bonneville Salt Flats and another little treat if you do a quick goggle search of the area. What we found was a picturesque, bright blue canal located east of the Bonneville Salt Flats named the “Potash Canals”.
When we arrived to this spectacle there were only a few groups there. One there for the views, one for a picnic, and a third setting up their kayak to row the waters. The third group had some of their members in the water for a dip. We touched the water but ended up being a little to nervous to commit to dipping our feet or anything further. Only a few minutes after we dipped our fingers in, workers approached us on the site warning us that the canal contained chemicals that could be dangerous. We took their advice. In some blogs they will say that the waters are not harmful, but we didn’t want to take any chances. (Later we found out that the workers were from Intrepid Potash, which operates three solar evaporation mines in Wendover and Moab, Utah and Carlsbad, New Mexico)
We took heed of the warnings. Lucky for us, they let us look about to take some amazing photos.
Enjoy this while you can. Beware that this is private property, and you could be cited. We feel like soon this will be fenced off in the near future and you will have to view this from the side of I-80. Have you been here before? If you have, did you get into the water?
